Safety Rules

ย (Must Read Before Every Session)

  1. Clear Your Firearm Completely - Remove all live ammo and double-check the chamber.
  2. Safe Training Location - Solid backstop, no people/pets in the line of fire.
  3. Laser Cartridge - Use only approved iDryfire Laser Cartridges. Never mix with live rounds.
  4. Muzzle & Trigger Discipline - Finger off trigger until on target.
  5. Session Rulesย  - No distractions. Stop if fatigued. Keep a first aid kit nearby.

Golden Rule: When in doubt, clear the gun again.ย 

10 Single-Shot Dry Fire Drills (Foundation)

All drills use 1 iDryfire Reactive Target at 3โ€“4 yards with the Reactive Target Timer App set to random start beep.

1. Low Ready Presentation

Purpose: Build fast reaction time and presentation speed.

  1. Start in a low ready position.
  2. On beep: Present firearm.
  3. Fire 1 clean shot.
  4. Reset trigger.

Reps: 2 sets of 5

Goal Times: Beginner <2โ€“3s | Intermediate <1.25โ€“2s | Advanced <1s

2. Holster Draw

Purpose: Develop a smooth, consistent draw stroke.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <3โ€“4s | Intermediate <2โ€“3s | Advanced <1.5s

3. Draw + Move to Cover

Purpose: Combine movement and shooting.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4โ€“5s | Intermediate <2.5โ€“3.5s | Advanced <2.25s

4. Draw + Reload + Shot

Purpose: Practice emergency reloads under time pressure.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4โ€“5s | Intermediate <2.5โ€“3.5s | Advanced <2.25s

5. Strong Hand Only (SHO)

Purpose: Build dominant-hand control and confidence.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <3โ€“4s | Intermediate <2โ€“2.75s | Advanced <1.75s

6. Support Hand Only (WHO) โ€“ Foundation

Purpose: Develop weak-hand proficiency for real-world scenarios.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4โ€“5s | Intermediate <2.5โ€“3.5s | Advanced <2.25s

7. Seated to Standing

Purpose: Simulate drawing from a vehicle or seated position.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4โ€“5s | Intermediate <3โ€“3.75s | Advanced <2.5s

8. Lateral Step + Single Shot

Purpose: Improve accuracy while moving.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4โ€“5s | Intermediate <2.75โ€“3.75s | Advanced <2.25s

9. Failure Drill (Malfunction Clearance)

Purpose: Train immediate action drills.

Reps: 2ร—5 (mix normal and malfunction reps)

Goal Times: Intermediate <3.5โ€“4.5s | Advanced <2.75s

10. Precision Single Shot

Purpose: Focus on accuracy over speed.

Setup: Use the smallest target zone or move back to 5โ€“7 yards.

Reps: 3ร—5 (slower pace)

Goal: Perfect hits with zero muzzle movement.

11. Concealed Appendix Draw (AIWB)

Purpose: Build a fast, consistent draw from the appendix inside the waistband.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4โ€“5s | Intermediate <2.75โ€“3.5s | Advanced <2s

12. Strong-Side IWB Draw (Hip Carry)

Purpose: Master traditional strong-side concealed draw.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4โ€“5.5s | Intermediate <3โ€“4s | Advanced <2.25s

13. Concealed Draw + One Step Back

Purpose: Create distance while drawing from concealment.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <5โ€“6s | Intermediate <3.5โ€“4.5s | Advanced <2.75s

14. Draw from Seated (Vehicle / Chair)

Purpose: Simulate drawing while seated in a car or restaurant.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <5โ€“6s | Intermediate <3.75โ€“4.75s | Advanced <3s

15. Concealed Draw + Immediate Malfunction Clearance

Purpose: Handle problems under realistic CCW stress.

Reps: 2ร—5 (mix 3 normal + 2 malfunction)

Goal Times: Intermediate <4โ€“5s | Advanced <3s

16. Retention Draw (Close Contact)

Purpose: Practice drawing and shooting from compressed retention position.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4โ€“5s | Intermediate <2.75โ€“3.75s | Advanced <2.25s

These drills build critical proficiency with your weak/support hand โ€” essential for real-world situations where your dominant hand may be injured or occupied. Perform at 3โ€“4 yards using your iDryfire Reactive Target.

17. Weak Hand Only from Low Ready

Purpose: Strengthen weak hand control and trigger management.

Steps:

  1. Start in low ready with weak hand only.
  2. On beep: Present firearm using support hand only.
  3. Fire 1 clean shot.
  4. Reset trigger and lower.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4โ€“5s | Intermediate <2.75โ€“3.75s | Advanced <2.25s

18. Concealed Weak Hand Draw

Purpose: Practice drawing and shooting from concealment with weak hand only.

Steps:

  1. Start with cover garment on, weak hand ready.
  2. On beep: Clear garment with weak hand, draw, and present.
  3. Fire 1 clean shot.
  4. Holster and cover.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <5โ€“6.5s | Intermediate <3.5โ€“4.5s | Advanced <2.75s

19. Weak Hand Lateral Movement + Shot

Purpose: Improve stability and accuracy while moving with weak hand.

Steps:

  1. Start holstered or low ready.
  2. On beep: Take one lateral step + draw/present with weak hand only.
  3. Fire 1 clean shot.
  4. Holster.

Reps: 2ร—5 (alternate directions)

Goal Times: Beginner <5โ€“6s | Intermediate <3.75โ€“4.75s | Advanced <3s

20. Weak Hand Seated Draw

Purpose: Simulate vehicle or seated defensive scenarios with weak hand.

Steps:

  1. Seated with cover garment.
  2. On beep: Clear garment, draw with weak hand, stand if needed, and fire 1 shot.
  3. Holster and sit.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <5.5โ€“7s | Intermediate <4โ€“5s | Advanced <3.25s

21. Weak Hand Retention + Shot

Purpose: Master close-contact shooting from retention using support hand.

Steps:

  1. On beep: Draw to high retention position with weak hand only.
  2. Fire 1 clean shot from retention.
  3. Reset and holster.

Reps: 2ร—5

Goal Times: Beginner <4.5โ€“5.5s | Intermediate <3โ€“4s | Advanced <2.5s

Training Recommendations

  • Session Length: 25โ€“35 minutes, 2โ€“3 times per week.
  • Always start with the Safety Rules.
